20th-
It's the 20th anniversary of Twisted Jenius and our dark works continue. The world of entertainment and gaming keeps changing, but we remain; eternal.
There has been quite a lot of pessimism around gaming lately, maybe more than I've ever seen. Gamers are dissatisfied with everything from pricing, to the ways that developers and publishers are treating them, to the games themselves. It seems that indie games are coming back in fashion again. They provide an alternative to the series of seemingly endless disappointments offered by AAA studios. And with the fact that so many of those large studios seem to be in trouble, with frequent large-scale layoffs and studio closures, it's my hope that there will be even more gamers looking for suitable replacements for their entertainment needs in the coming years.
Of course we're going to try and provide them with some wonderfully sinister experiences. Right now we are simultaneously working on marketing and game improvements for Terror Chasm. I am currently in the midst of creating a new and better character model of our protagonist, Lilly. Once I have her completely modeled, textured and rigged; she will be given appropriate animations and then she will be featured in our next cinematic trailer as well as added to the game. In fact, I plan on upgrading a lot of the game's visuals and overhauling the general look of Terror Chasm, to make it all that much more compelling.
When asked how to succeed in show business, the legendary actor/comedian Steve Martin famously said “Be so good they can't ignore you”. That seems to be wise advice. One unique feature of the entertainment industry is that the quality of the work, the “product”, does seem to have an outsized effect on success when compared with traditional marketing efforts. This isn't to say that standard marketing doesn't matter, but having an amazing game can do a lot of the heavy lifting. And I believe that this applies even more in the Internet age, where word-of-mouth publicity is so much more prevalent and accessible. Gamers can and will spread the word when they find something that they really like.
This is why we are going to continue to work on Terror Chasm. We will continue to improve it and expand it. It will get better and better, until it is impossible to ignore.
